Ministry Purpose and Work
“The Word is My Life” Training Ministry emphasizes the power of God’s Word and its ability to transform lives when applied. This ministry centers its focus on personal growth in Christ and, thereby, helping people find their purpose in life and fulfill it.
Specializing in Christian education and counsel, life application of the Word of God, ministry, and leadership development, “The Word is My Life” has been on the move since its inception in 2002. For 18 years, Dr. Iris Barrett has used her giftings - teaching, counseling, ministry, intercession, and writing - to bless the body of Christ.
Mini-books | Initially, the ministry began with the writing and self-publishing of 23 encouragement mini-books. These guidebooks are available on the site today for those seeking Biblical answers to life’s pressing problems. The most popular mini-book in the series is Encouragement for Your Future. These mini-books address the power of the Christian faith, how to lay a foundation of belief and expectation in God, how to maintain spiritual, mental, and physical health, and how to renew your mind and view your situation through spiritual eyes. Consider purchasing these materials for your growth and edification today!
Encouragement Counsel and Talks | The training ministry provides one-on-one Biblical encouragement counseling and personal growth talks for individuals and groups. Dr. Barrett encourages by sharing and explaining scriptures with an emphasis on applying the Word. She also prays for counselees and shares from her own life experience. Counsel is provided at Christian Community Outreach Ministries (CCOM) in Hickory, NC - see calendar - but also can be provided over the phone and online. Individuals leave the session with hope derived from the Word of God and prayer and are given instruction on how to continue the journey toward wholeness. “The Word is My Life” Training Ministry is founded upon the Word of God. The belief system undergirding this ministry is the following: God, the great Creator, has a plan for our lives (Jeremiah 1:5; Jeremiah 29:11). God exists from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 90:2), overseeing His divine plans and purposes.
I also believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He shed His blood - ultimately offering up His life - to free us from the curse of sin (John 3:16). Not only is the power of sin broken in the life of the believer, but we are free to live a new life in Christ (1 Cor. 15:22). For believers - those who receive Jesus Christ as Savior - He comes to dwell within us (Colossians 1:27), care for us lovingly as our Shepherd (Psalm 23:1), and minister to our souls (1 Peter 2:25).
Jesus has also provided us a comforter - the Holy Spirit of God - who teaches us, guides us into truth, and lights the path for our lives (John 16:13; John 14:15-18).
As believers, we are the body of Christ. We join God in the great work He has ordained for the ages. As we fulfill our life’s call - the purpose for which we were created - the Kingdom of God advances. Just as Jesus said, “The Kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17), our presence and Kingdom work in the earth demonstrate the same.
Luke 4:18-19 reveals the purpose and plan for my life and that of this ministry: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” I am simply following in the footsteps of Jesus. I am determined to complete my life’s mandate with the hand of God upon me and with the presence of Jesus Christ (and the power of His Spirit) within me. I endeavor to be a vessel for the Master’s use.
You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)
