“I AM” – The God Who Manifests Himself to Us

kid with Bible

God has revealed Himself in His Word through Jesus Christ! As true believers, now is the time we walk in His revelation knowledge that brings life and has the power to change our circumstances. I’ll explain.

In the Bible, revealed knowledge about God formed the path for believers to follow. We’ll look at the lives of Moses, Martha, and Peter. How did God manifest Himself (directly or through Christ) to meet the needs of His people?

Revelation to Moses

After killing an Egyptian who had beaten a Hebrew, Moses fled to Midian. He tended flocks on the back side of the desert (Exodus 3:1). At the appointed time, God presented Himself to Moses in a burning bush and commissioned him to go to Egypt to deliver the Egyptians.

God instructed Moses to tell the people, “I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:14). In other words, by revealing Himself as I AM, God established that He is eternal with no beginning or end!

I AM also means that HE IS whatever His people lacked. For those who lacked wisdom, He would be their wisdom. For those who walked in darkness, He would be their light. For those who lacked direction, He would be the Shepherd of the sheep. HE IS all the children of Israel would need during their wilderness journey.

In God through Christ, we also find what we need along our life’s journey. If we ask, He reveals to us who HE IS; then, we can seek Him and knock, expecting Him to answer. Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” He longs for us to come to Him for every need because HE IS what we need!

Revelation to Martha

In John 11, we find a distressed Martha in panic mode because Jesus did not arrive before her brother Lazarus died (John 11:21). Jesus responds to her by telling her who HE ISI am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” In other words, He wants to know if Martha can believe and receive who He is during this crisis. He is the answer—resurrection life! And she responded, “Yes, I believe!”

Every believer should cling to the names of Jesus found in the Bible. These names represent His eternal character, which is how He manifests Himself in our lives. The same applies to the names of God (Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shalom, etc.). An internet search easily yields these names. We ask, seek, and knock, coming to our God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Can you believe Jesus’ words: I am the resurrection and the life?” Well, think about a lifeless situation you are experiencing, and pray. Speak Jesus manifesting Himself as resurrection life in your situation, and believe!

If you have unease in your soul, believe Jesus is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Speak Jesus manifesting Himself as a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

If you deal with loneliness, believe He is Immanuel, meaning “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). Speak Jesus manifesting Himself with His reassuring presence.

If you find yourself directionless, believe Jesus is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep (John 10:11). Speak Jesus manifesting Himself as your loving Shepherd.

Without fear, look at your situation and see your need being met by the One who manifests Himself just as His Word says.

Revelation to Peter

Lastly, Jesus Christ is a spiritual rock (1 Corinthians 10:4). When He speaks, His words become a foundation upon which we can stand and rest our lives. Ask Peter! In Matthew 14:28-29, we see Peter stepping out on the sure foundation of Jesus’ spoken Word: “Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”

Peter asked for a word, and Jesus spoke, “Come.” When He spoke, Peter believed, received the Word, and walked on the water.

I encourage you to search the scriptures for the revealing of our Father God and our Savior Jesus Christ! Believe and stand upon these names that reveal faithful and eternal character. Experience the manifest presence of God in your circumstances. Do you believe this? Think on these things!
